“The Lord said, ‘I will go with you and give you peace.'”
~ Exodus 33:14
Happy New Year!
I love this scripture for starting off the new year. Because even though this is a new year, and we have hopes and dreams for an exciting year ahead, it may be that we just came out of a very tough one. And there is no promise that this year will be better than the one ahead of us, but one thing is for sure…if we have put our trust in Jesus, we know that He is on the other side of any tribulation we face. So, I’m looking forward to 2016, but I’m more encouraged by the news that He is there with me.
“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
– John 16:33
I hope you had a blessed Christmas and found peace in celebrating the season of our Savior’s birth. This was our Christmas card this year. My mom said it was her favorite one ever, but she’s kind of biased. The sweet and humble manger was built by my dad. After toying around with what we were going to do for our card this year, I decided that this might be the last year the kids would let me dress them up like this, so on a Wednesday afternoon I called my dad and said, “dad, do you think you could build me a manger?” He said, “when do you need it?” I then proceeded to tell him that coming Sunday. He didn’t seem too hopeful, but a couple of days later when I came home, he said, “I built your manger.” He’s pretty awesome like that. And the manger was perfect, and his rugged, humble barn was perfect, and the weather was perfect, and the kids were perfect, and I thought, yeah, our card this year..is..well, perfect. And maybe God just let it all happen like that, because it’s message is perfect. Because it’s His message…His message of hope…His perfect message.
If you haven’t quite made it into the Christmas spirit category yet, this just might do it for ya. I’ve seen this little fella as the Easter Bunny, in his birthday suit and now in this preppy winter ensemble…and I might just get to see him dressed up as the jolly one himself soon. Stay tuned! The adorable wooden sled he brought with him has me dreaming of a white Christmas too…despite our forecast for a 70 degree Christmas! Woah, Santa! How about bringing some flurries with you on that sleigh or at least a cool breeze. Well, in any weather, this is one beautiful and blessed family. And this session was full of things I love about Christmas – sleds and snow, ornaments and trees, milk, cookies and mistletoe!
Chestnuts roasting on an open fire
Jack Frost nipping at your nose
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir
And folks dressed up like Eskimos
Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe
Help to make the season bright
Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow
Will find it hard to sleep tonight
